Huon’s Forest Home Hatchery has an exciting 12-month opportunity for a hardworking, self-motivated Hatchery Technician looking to join the aquaculture industry.
About the role
As part of a small hands-on team, you will play an integral part in supporting hatchery operations and maintaining the welfare of our fish to a high standard. You will:
- Undertake routine checks of the aquatic life support systems and report/remediate any adjustments required to maintain high standards of fish welfare.
- Conduct routine maintenance on all equipment and monitor water quality systems.
- Feed fish and conduct weight checks and fish sampling to monitor and screen fish performance.
- Vaccinate and grade the fish.
- Perform general assorted farm duties as required.
This opportunity is a full-time position, operating Monday to Friday. You are required to participate in regular paid overnight shifts.
About you
- You have a current and valid driver’s licence.
- You are enthusiastic and self-motivated with a positive attitude, willing to work in all environments and conditions.
- You are an excellent communicator with the ability to work effectively autonomously and within a small team.
- You have a keen eye for detail and a proactive focus on continually looking to improve processes.
- You have intermediate computer skills.
This is an entry level position, however the following is looked upon favourably:
- A combination of practical fish husbandry experience and a qualification in Aquaculture or related field, or a basic understanding of fish biology and water chemistry.
- A current First Aid certificate.
