The opportunity

Exciting opportunity to join the Sustainability team in its endeavour to deliver on QBE's purpose and make a positive contribution to the community.

Your new role:

You will play an important role in driving the delivery and evolution of the climate and environmental aspects of QBE's sustainability strategy, to embed change across all levels of the business. As a senior trusted advisor, you will work closely with senior leaders to evolve QBE's climate, biodiversity, and broader environmental approach, deliver strategic insights to inform business decision-making and support capability development, and support QBE to maintain an environmental leadership position.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Delivering and evolving QBE's Group-wide climate and environmental strategy, commitments, metrics and targets.
  • Build enterprise thinking and collaboration across our regions to drive innovation and commercial opportunities aligned with QBE's sustainability strategy, commitments and targets.
  • Overseeing climate-related activities across underwriting, investment and procurement, and working with stakeholders across a range of functions and teams.
  • Conducting assessments of QBE's Group-wide climate-related risks and opportunities, and work across the business to integrate consideration of these risks and opportunities into relevant business processes.
  • Coordinating QBE's climate-related scenario analysis.
  • Leading the ongoing maintenance, integration and monitoring of our Group Environmental Policy.
  • Coordinating and overseeing the implementation of the net zero roadmap for our own operations, including:
    • maintaining our resource efficiency and emissions reduction opportunity pipeline,
    • engaging across the business on environmental performance and improvement opportunities,
    • overseeing our renewables and carbon offset/removal sourcing plan and process.
  • Overseeing climate-related disclosures and climate-related responses as required for QBE memberships, benchmarking surveys, and sustainability submissions.
  • Monitoring performance and delivery of exception reporting to relevant governance forums.
  • Driving development of impactful communications to support executive briefings, investor relations and employee engagement activities.
  • Representing QBE in relevant internal and external working groups and forums.
About you:

You are a subject matter expert providing strategic leadership and in-depth technical guidance on climate risks, opportunities and management actions. You are able to foster strong stakeholder relationships and work on a range of tasks simultaneously, while driving pragmatic and effective outcomes in a timely manner.

You will have knowledge of global climate trends and frameworks, particularly as they relate to the finance sector (eg NGFS, IEA, PCAF, Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards, etc). Additionally, you should demonstrate strong business acumen to effectively communicate the commercial rationale behind climate and environmental management practices.

You will have:

  • At least 8 years relevant experience.
  • Strong background/understanding in the finance sector, with extensive knowledge of Climate change, biodiversity and sustainability.
  • Strategic leadership with proven experience of delivering and maturing roadmaps/strategies in a high quality, timely manner.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to communicate and articulate complex concepts to a broad audience and represent the team or function in a range of internal and external forums.
  • Strong ability to manage and resolve conflict and to work under pressure.
The interview process will consist of 2-3 interviews and background checks.
