Salary Range: $140,189 (PN: 51865, expected vacancy)
Details: The Health, Community and Science (HCS) College at Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is seeking an outstanding Head of Department in CIT Wellbeing who, through quality leadership and management of education and related activities, will contribute to the achievement of the department, college and organisational goals.
The CIT Wellbeing Department delivers training in the areas of Sport Coaching, Fitness, Remedial Massage Therapy, Allied Health Assistance, Dental Assisting, Population Health, Work Health & Safety and First Aid. The department also delivers a range of industry specific programs including non-accredited courses for the continual education of industry professionals. Within the department and the management of the Head of Department is several authentic learning environments including a commercial fitness facility. Training is delivered through full time, part time and flexible study modes. The department works collaboratively with industry and with other areas across the College of Health, Community and Science and CIT to create unique innovative learning opportunities for students.
The Head of Department role requires an exceptional leader who possesses strong communication and teamwork skills in managing a dynamic team of administrative and teaching staff to ensure excellence in delivery in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector. This includes the development of innovative and customised models of delivery and assessment while ensuring the provision of high-quality customer service to learners.
The successful candidate will also need to provide leadership in establishing and sustaining collaborative relationships with community, industry and other key stakeholders, and provide advice and proactive leadership to increase departmental and college revenue. The ability to model the CIT cultural traits is critical.

Eligibility/Other Requirements: Refer to the ACT Public Sector Canberra Institute of Technology Educators Enterprise Agreement 2023 – 2026.
All employees at Manager Education Level 1 must hold a full Training and Assessment Certificate IV level qualification (such as a TAE40116 or equivalent), and a Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (or equivalent).
For managers at or above Manager Education Level 1:
- Vocational qualifications are highly desirable; however, where managers engage in direct teaching activity (anywhere within CIT) subclause M10.11 will also apply to them, as it relates to the teaching activity; and
- Industry experience is highly desirable (although this does not have to be in the disciplines being supervised).
