Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/SA896141

This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024

Ellenbrook Secondary College (ESC) is situated in the heart of the Swan Valley and is one of the fastest growing regions in the Perth metropolitan area. ESC is a richly diverse, multicultural school which caters for students from a wide range of backgrounds of over 60 different native language groups.

ESC is seeking a motivated and caring individual to fill the role of Head of Learning Area – English as an Additional Language/Dialect (HOLA – EALD).

In collaboration with the Principal and members of the Executive team, the HOLA – EALD will be responsible for establishing the EALD Learning Area and working with other Heads of Learning Area to embed EALD teaching and learning strategies across the College.

The successful applicant should use their educational leadership to train teachers and education assistants to support the implementation of a whole school EALD teaching and learning strategy. A high level of personal expertise as well as strong understanding of both EALD and broader literacy intervention strategies will be important to success in this role.

ESC works closely with our feeder primary schools through the Dadirri network. Applicants with well-developed interpersonal skills who can establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders are highly desirable. As the HOLA – EALD your active engagement in cultivating a positive school culture and implementing procedures to support the ethos of ESC while promoting and upholding the mission and values of the Dadirri network will be paramount.

The HOLA – EALD will also be responsible for a wide range of additional literacy interventions and programs for individuals and groups of students. This includes the management of the whole school literacy plan and ensuring appropriate EALD and literacy strategies are embedded in the ESC whole-school pedagogy model, Instructional Intelligences.

The successful applicant will ideally have highly developed data analytical skills which they will use to identify appropriate differentiation to meet the needs of all students requiring additional literacy support. Your leadership skills will be crucial in fostering an effective team approach that enhances the social, emotional, and behavioural development of students through contemporary, strategic, and targeted interventions that lead to improved student outcomes.
