About the Role
We have an exciting and rare opportunity for a passionate, motivated and patient focussed Head of Department (Scientist in Charge) – Immunology to join the team based at our Osborne Park Laboratory.
As Head of Department, you will be responsible for providing leadership as a part of the day-to-day Immunology team, in a “hands on” role, performing and validating a broad range of complex and varied investigations consistently and accurately.
This role would be ideal for someone looking to take the next step in their career. You will be a self-motivated individual, who can demonstrate an attention to detail, along with excellent communication skills and a strong focus on outstanding customer service. The salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Rostering, supervision and training of staff in the Immunology department
- Perform competency assessments, performance management and audits
- Manage work flow processes, budgets and department plans
- Attending to the care, storage and processing of pathology specimens
- Quality monitoring and improvement.
To be considered for the role you will need to possess the following:
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ recent experience in a diagnostic clinical pathology environment, with specific experience in a dedicated Immunology department.
- Previous experience in leading a team would be advantageous
- The ability to identify and analyse issues, problems and opportunities in a timely and effective manner.
- Good computer skills, excellent customer service skills and telephone manner
- Exceptional time management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with the team, Pathologists, referring Doctors and patients
- Understanding of, and commitment to maintaining NATA accreditation standards.
- Ability to understand and ensure compliance with WHS policies and guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy workplace
