About the Department of Education
The Department of Education are dedicated to building an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the community and schools we support by treating everyone with respect and dignity. This starts recruitment and selection. The methods of assessing suitability in the recruitment process may vary. This includes making reasonable adjustments to support applicants at all stages of the process and employee lifecycle.
About Middlemount Community School
Middlemount Community School is a state school that provides a quality education from Prep to Year 12. Our school, with an enrolment of approximately 300 students, serves the local mining community of Middlemount and the surrounding rural properties. In Prep to year 6, we develop strong foundations through the Australian Curriculum and our literacy and numeracy programs. Our Junior Secondary department builds on these foundations, with a strong focus on wellbeing and engagement. In the senior phase, students are prepared for further education and training or pathways into employment and industry through a successful program of school based apprenticeships and traineeships.
About the Role
We are seeking an innovative and energetic educator to develop our Technology capability to ensure our students are ready for the workplace of the future. The role would be working on the Technology curriculum areas across our p-12 school, primarily in the secondary school. The successful candidate should have a strong knowledge of ITD/Technologies curriculum, and experience in VET and a current TAE will be highly regarded.
We have existing partnerships with business and universities, including a high proportion of our senior students holding school based apprenticeships in the mining and related industries. To build on this further we require the input of a creative and innovative thinker to take our students' success to the next level.
As a member of the school leadership team in a prep to year 12 school, the Head of Department (Secondary) will also take on other strategic and operational roles as agreed upon, including student management.
Middlemount qualifies as a remote location and all the benefits that go along with that - however we are only 2.5 hours from the coast. Subsidised accommodation is available - including housing for couples and families, if required.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
Please refer to the attached role description for any mandatory requirements for this position.
How to Apply
  • Please attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant previous work history); and
  • A 2-pg written statement in response to the attached role description.
We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.
Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.
Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.
When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
Salary rate shown is reflective of full-time (1.0 FTE).
