About the Opportunity
We are currently looking for a Head of Development to join our experienced Impact Missions team, based in either Perth or Sydney. Reporting to the Executive Director, Impact Missions, you will be well versed in tackling urgent challenges and existential threats on an international level. You will move with agility across varied subject matter to rapidly understand and execute on new priorities and as triaged by the Executive Director.
The Head of Development will work closely with the Director, Delivery and drive effective collaboration between the portfolios. The Head of Development will motivate the team to be focused and agile to identify Minderoo’s unique contribution to new issues and stay aligned with the Impact Missions approach.
Day to day, you will be required to:
- Lead the team’s overall strategy to design, implement and advance the Impact Missions methodology, with a particular focus on Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
- Lead a small, high performing team responsible for the stand up of new projects, ensuring they continue to implement their work in line with the Impact Missions approach.
- Establish and lead with enthusiasm projects triaged to the Development team by the Executive Director.
- Identify when internal or external subject matter expertise may be required and ensure these needs are met through seconded or contracted expertise.
- Ensure projects successfully transition to the Delivery Team for ongoing implementation.
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Director, Delivery as a cohesive leadership team driving a ‘can do’ culture.
- Represent Minderoo at all levels, both internally and externally across a variety of stakeholders.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the Executive Director and CEO to move Development projects forward impactfully.

About You
The successful candidate will be a strong and passionate leader who can bring people together and inspire team members to pursue long term direction. Your ability to delegate objectives to the team with clear and explicit intent, allowing empowerment and with a commitment to best practice people leadership, will see you flourish.
Essential skills and experience include:
- Completion of a relevant university degree ideally Humanities, International Relations, Law, Political Science or Economics disciplines or work experience that is equivalent to a degree.
- Previous senior management experience in philanthropy/ not for profit, management consultancy, or in house legal roles are preferable.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in delivering scalable, impactful projects for our beneficiaries, including contexts of conflict, humanitarian crises, and natural disasters.
- Expertise in system thinking and strategy development, project management and program development.
- Risk identification and management expertise to mitigate impacts on the successful implementation of the chosen strategy.
- Demonstrated negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to reconcile multiple diverse viewpoints across internal and external stakeholders.
