About the role

We are currently seeking an experienced Head of Investment Risk professional to join our State Investments team based in Brisbane.

The Head of Investment Risk will play a crucial role in implementing and overseeing the comprehensive portfolio risk system for QIC's State Investments team. This position involves significant collaboration across teams to ensure the risk system aggregates and manages risk across both public and private asset classes, providing a holistic view of the fund.

This role is essential for ensuring that QIC's State Investments team maintains a robust risk management framework that supports informed investment decision-making and strategic risk mitigation.

The key accountabilities are not limited to but include:

  • Oversee the successful implementation and integration of the whole-of-portfolio risk system within agreed timelines and budget.
  • Develop and implement a robust, consistent risk management framework aligned with State Investment's philosophy and processes.
  • Establish policies, investment processes, and controls to identify, assess, and mitigate Investment Risks.
  • Provide accurate and insightful risk reports and dashboards to aid senior management in strategic decision-making.
  • Communicate risk-related issues and strategies effectively, lead risk discussions, and present viable solutions.
  • Enhance the risk management framework and processes continuously by leveraging new technologies, data analytics, and industry best practices.
  • Continue to leverage the system to gain insights and make strategic recommendations to mitigate risks within the portfolio(s).

About you

You will be an experienced investment management professional with a proven track record in the financial services industry, adept at implementing robust risk systems and frameworks across multi-asset environments. You will also have:

  • Degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or related field.
  • Extensive experience and proven track record in implementing risk systems and frameworks within financial services.
  • Strong collaboration and leadership skills to drive projects forward.
  • Deep knowledge of risk concepts, methodologies, models, and various asset classes and strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills, effective with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.
