About the Role

Working side by side with the CEO, the Head of Legal and Integrity at Baseball Australia plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of the sport. Collaborating with the Baseball Australia Board, senior executives, and CEOs of State Members, this role offers a unique opportunity to provide proactive and reactive guidance to drive success. From safeguarding sport integrity to navigating legal matters, including contracts and agreements, disputes, employment law, and governance, the Head of Legal and Integrity is at the forefront of ensuring excellence.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and embed Baseball Australia’s National Integrity Framework (NIF) and supplementing policies.  
  • In collaboration with the CEO, Chair and Governance Committee Chair, implement the process of development and continuous improvement of Baseball Australia Governance Organisation Enhancement Plan.
  • Proactively work with SSO members on distribution of governance improvement resources and advice.
  • Negotiating, drafting, and reviewing agreements across the diverse operations at Baseball Australia.
  • Develop, refine and coordinate efficient and effective practices for Boards and Committees.
  • Lead Baseball the oversight of Australia’s Sport Controlling Body status and ensure that BA complies with all applicable regulations, reporting and otherwise.
  • Reporting, gathering, and complying with all necessary information from Wagering Service Providers.
  • Lead the Negotiations and Oversight of the PFA’s signed with betting regulators.
  • Review and advise on Constitution improvements and Charter Documents.
  • Provide support to relevant BA staff members in relation to Rules, Policies and Processes relating to baseball events and competition.
  • Partner with the Human Resources Manager to develop and implement policies for employee issues - e.g. compensation, working hours, benefits, whistle blowing, disciplinary procedures etc.

Remuneration

Remuneration will be negotiated on the basis of skills and experience. Please include your expected salary range in your cover letter.  This is a full time role however part time pro rata may be considered.

About You

The ideal candidate for this position will possess a diverse range of skills essential for effective leadership and organisational management. The role requires proficiency in project management, with the ability to oversee various initiatives and ensure timely execution. Strong relationship management skills are also crucial, as the candidate will be responsible for fostering positive connections with stakeholders, colleagues, and clients.

Excellent communication abilities are a must, enabling clear and concise articulation of ideas, thinking on one’s feet and facilitating collaboration among team members. Additionally, they should demonstrate a talent for simplifying complexity, as well as strategic thinking and problem analysis to navigate challenges effectively. Above all, the candidate should be adept at managing the process from idea conception to execution, driving innovation and facilitating the achievement of organisational goals.

Experience and Competencies

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in law.
  • Tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in governance.
  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience serving as a knowledgeable resource and advisor.
  • Applied knowledge and understanding of contemporary Legal and governance issues, ideally within not-for-profit settings.
  • Drives execution - translates strategic priorities into operational reality; aligning communication, accountabilities, resource capabilities, internal processes, and ongoing measurement systems to ensure that strategic priorities yield measurable and sustainable results.
