Robert Half Executive Search has been exclusively retained to identify an accomplished leader for a Head of Operations position. Our client is an award-winning Australian-owned and managed industry leader in transport automation solutions. This is a full-time role based in the Western Suburbs of Sydney, with some interstate travel required.
The Role
Reporting to the Managing Director, your role will ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service and product quality across the firm's national operations, which include procurement, warehousing, operations, logistics, service, and maintenance. You will also manage a culturally diverse team of +40 staff in multiple geographic locations. The ideal candidate is expected to bring a distinguished track record in operations management, a strong technical understanding, and a proven ability to spearhead operational and process improvements to ensure a strong and positive customer relationship exists to support efficient production output.
This exciting growth opportunity for an ambitious operation professional requires a depth and breadth of knowledge across all traditional aspects of inventory control, project management, people management, resource planning and processes and internal control, and strong commercial acumen. The ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders across Australia is crucial for the success of this role.
Ideal Profile
Currently, in a Senior Operations or General Management role, the successful candidate will have over 5 to 8 years of work experience within multisite, service, installation, automated materials handling, or manufacturing businesses.
The successful candidate will also exhibit solid problem-solving capabilities, addressing challenges with a solution-oriented mindset. This individual will be adept at managing and mitigating operational risks, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will be pivotal in optimising operational processes, streamlining workflows, and enhancing overall productivity. As a medium-sized family-owned business, this individual will be hands-on and strategic, requiring a willingness to get into the details to complete the day-to-day operational needs.
This role could also be succession planning for the Managing Director, who is looking for the next leader of this privately owned business.
Functional and Behavioural Skills Required:
- Experience in managing multi-site and complex operations.
- Knowledge of related service and installation industries, such as air-conditioning, plumbing, ducting, elevators, lighting, and pneumatic systems etc, would be advantageous.
- Significant experience in inventory control and resource planning.
- Understanding of logistics, project management, and warehousing.
- Strong strategy implementation skills.
- Strong commercial acumen.
- Attention to detail and adaptive nature.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Maintain a constant focus on recruiting, supporting, and developing staff.
- Has a sense of urgency to deliver higher levels of performance.
- Willingness to operate in a dynamic environment.
