The role
As the Head Technical Operator (Venue Head Mechanist) you will be responsible for general operations and day to day activities within the staging team. This role will assist the Theatre Technical Manager with coordinating in-house staging resources, leading the back of house staging team, reviewing, and providing technical requirements for touring shows, act in required staging roles during shows, roster, and act as a senior point of contact for casual staging staff.
In this role, you’ll provide joyful experiences through your genuine care for guests. As well as:
- Supervise all technical aspects of Theatre BOH staging operations
- Contribute to staging technical planning process to ensure venue is maintained and developed to meet artistic and business needs
- Liaise with external and internal clients, suppliers, production companies and/or touring production managers to ensure the staging technical aspects are delivered
- Assist in scheduling and rostering of staging resources to meet requirements for all Theatre events/shows
- Co-ordinate staging and technical bump in/bump out of shows, coordinating services and overseeing operations.
- Manage the continuous improvement of team performance, practice and processe
- Contribute to staff recruitment and induction process as required
About you
You’ll bring the following:
- 5 years senior technical staging experience with an emphasis on Theatre Stage productions
- 12 months experience in administrative functions including rostering, register creation/maintenance
- Ability to analyse problems and identify solutions
- Demonstrated experience leading a team
- Knowledge of and commitment to Occupational Health and Safety, Equal Opportunity, and Ethical practice
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Organisational ability including time management, task prioritisation and resource scheduling
- Experience in the use of CAD design programs and reading of CAD plans (desired)
This role requires:
- Tertiary Qualification in specialised field (Staging)/Technical Theatre or equivalent experience
- Qualified rigger certification (desired)
- First Aid Certification (desired)
- Forklift and EWP License
