Blackwater Mine
Located in Central Queensland, BMA's Blackwater Mine is one of Queensland's largest coal mines. It is situated approximately 21 kilometres from the town of Blackwater.
The BUMA Australia team has been performing truck and excavator pre-strip operations at Blackwater since May 2012. Over 35 million bank cubic metres of material is mined by our fleets every year.
Our fleet at the mine comprises a combination of Komatsu 930E and Caterpillar 789C/789B haul trucks with Hitachi EX8000, Caterpillar 6060 and Hitachi EX3600 excavators.
Job description:
We are now seeking a Health & Injury Management Coordinator to join our Blackwater team to conduct and oversee injury/case management and other health related matters required by the business. You will work in accordance with the company values and demonstrate commitment, active involvement and leadership.
This is a permanent, full-time role based on site at Blackwater on a 9 day fortnight (5:2, 4:3). Due to the demands of the role the successful candidate would ideally be located within a driveable distance from Blackwater (Capricorn Coast region) & would be expected to work an average of 11 hrs a day. LAFHA allowance or camp accommodation provided.
Key Responsibilities
In this role you will be required to oversee the case management of Workers Compenstion claims, including reporting, liaising with the insurer. Additional responsibilities will include:
- Develop and deliver training to operational staff in workers' compensation and Injury Management.
- Build and maintain relationships with appropriate stakeholders (eg. internal managers, client, insurers, Doctors, rehabilitation providers) to maximise the effectiveness of Injury Management.
- Provide advice and support to operational staff and management regarding injury and health matters.
- Develop and deliver health training to the workforce (e.g ergonomics, manual handling and fatigue)
- Assist with the administration and collation of factual evidence and documentation for common law investigations.
- Implement and/or assist in the development of targeted workplace health initiatives for the site.
- Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of individual employee details and files.
- Develop and manage site health registers (e.g journey management plans, CBMs)
- Review relevant instructions/ procedures as required
- Manage Coal Board Medicals (CBM) for all BUMA personnel
- Complete and participate in incident investigations where required (work replated and non-work-related events)
- Complete and participate in workplace inspections
- Meet designated Field Leadership interaction requirements.
- Undertake specific projects as defined by HSET Superintendent.
- Prepare and present daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly HSE reports and summaries when requested
- Ensure all statutory requirements are fulfilled in the HSE reporting of the project.
- Ensure that contractual requirements regarding HSE are met and integrated into the site PMP
Profile description:
The successful candidate will have a combination of the following:
- Experience in Health & Safety withing the mining industry or similar
- Qualification in Allied health
- Current driver's license is essential
- Workers' compensation management experience would be beneficial (eg. rehabilitation coordinator or case manager)
- A good understanding of Injury Management and outcomes
- A strong ability to work with other health care providers to ensure best outcomes for our employees
- Computer literacy and exposure to the Microsoft suite programs (particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly developed negotiation skills and the ability to liaise with all levels of the workforce
- Ability to demonstrate skills in time management, organisation and teamwork
