About the role

Reporting to the Manager Health & Safety the primary purpose of the Superintendent - Health & Safety is to develop, implement and maintain Health and Safety programmes across all operational sites and provide technical Health and Safety advice to operational leaders to ensure leading practice systems are implemented and maintained. This is a 8/6 FIFO role in the Pilbara working between all 3 current sites.

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Providing visible leadership in driving positive safety behaviour within the tam and across the business consistent with the Atlas Iron core values and Mine Safety Management System.
  • Monitoring, reviewing and analysing data to identify trends and areas for improvement and propose improvement approaches to operational leaders.
  • Facilitating Health and Safety promotion, training and education.
  • Applying risk and hazard management processes and abide by the Atlas Behavioural Framework to always ensure a physically and mentally safe work environment.
  • Driving socially responsible sourcing initiatives, improving both local sourcing and Indigenous sourcing to exceed spend targets.
  • Engaging with contract partners and external service providers, stakeholders and associated companies to build sustainable relationships that will deliver positive outcomes for Atlas.
  • Implementing sustainable initiatives and succession planning strategies within the team, and supported functions, to minimise disruptions to operational activities
  • Developing programs and supporting processes that contribute to the continuous improvement of the Mines Safety Management System, Principal Mining Hazard Management Plan and Critical Risk Management process.
  • Implementing the Atlas Health & Safety audit compliance framework to ensure Atlas and contractor conformance against MSMS.

About you

You will be a dynamic, self-starter with plenty of enthusiasm and align with our Values of Excellence, Indomitable Spirit, Agility, Trust and Win-Win. You will be an individual who can think outside the box, have an eye for detail with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant Tertiary (Diploma or above) qualifications in Health & Safety
  • 7+ years' experience in Health and Safety roles including strategic and operational leadership within the mining, resource or construction sector.
  • Lead auditor qualifications - Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) management system.
  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment (desirable)
  • Lead incident investigation certification (ICAM or similar)
  • Working knowledge of the WA WH&S Act, WH&S (Mine) Regulations and Codes of Practice
  • INX InControl software package and the DEMIRS Safety Reporting System (SRS) experience (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience implementing, monitoring, and maintaining programs, supporting processes and verification of the Mines Safety Management Plan, Principal Mining Hazard Management Plan and Critical Risk Management process.
  • Experience in working with ISO45001 and in health & safety management techniques, systems, and tools including risk management, monitoring, inspections, and auditing mine operator and contractor operations.
  • Monitoring Health & Safety KPIs and reporting, audit schedule, facilitate incident investigations and drive actions through to completion.
  • Experience leading and developing a small team of Health & Safety professionals and consultants in FIFO roles across a geographically dispersed operation.
  • Current Australian C Class manual drivers licence
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
