The Health & Safety Advisor will work alongside our HSE Manager to support both BGC Asphalt and BGC Quarries business units. The successful individual will have a passion for occupational health and safety, along with the desire to promote and maintain a safe work environment. Based out of our BGC Quarries site, at ‘The Lakes,’ you will support our team and contractors as well as coordinate and promote WHS policies and procedures.
This role will suit a safety professional looking to enter the mining or heavy industry. Working with a small safety team and under the guidance of the HSE Manager, you will be exposed to a wide variety of safety-related functions across the business to help further embed a positive safety culture.
Key duties will include:
- Assist and coach workers in key safety practices, procedures, principal mining hazards and critical controls.
- Conduct workplace inspections to monitor operational controls' effectiveness.
- Support the implementation of the HSE Improvement plan and behavioural safety program.
- Support in reviewing developing and implementing safety systems and projects (i.e. Risk Assessments, Work Instructions, JSEAs and safety training).
- Ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements.
- Conducting incident investigations.
- Conducting regular safety audits, risk assessments and inspections.
- Assist team members in the identification and control of hazards, the prevention of injuries and the maintenance of a safe working environment.
- Support the maintenance of the online safety management system.
- Spend 70% of your time in the field.
- Current WA driver’s license
- Minimum of a Certificate 4 in Occupational Health and Safety
- Exposure in a mining, heavy or industrial industry (desirable but not essential)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Exposure to incident investigations, including ICAM (or similar)
