The role is responsible for providing Health, Safety and Wellbeing advice and services to senior management, working closely with individual work units to ensure WHS is embedded into the workforce.
The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Business Partner supports the Council’s managers and employees to achieve their objectives by providing quality and customer safety expertise, advice and solutions on work, health, Safety and Wellbeing management related issues.
As the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Business Partner, you will maintain an in-depth understanding of the core functions of workplace health and safety legislation, best practice, workforce trends and strategic changes to support the provision of relevant and constructive advice to the organisation.
Through the effective and strong relationships built with the Directorates, the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Officer will deliver modern and innovative services to create a safety-focused organisation. The role will foster, support, and drive a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration that excels in the delivery of our customers’ experience.
The role will promote and exemplify the Council’s vision to meet community expectations, deliver key organisational performance indicators and maintain accountability in line with the Community Plan and a customer ethos of “people are at the centre of all we do and deliver.”
What you'll need to succeed
- The minimum Diploma qualification in Work Health and Safety, Human Resource Management, or a related discipline with relevant experience is equivalent.
- Three Years experience in a similar role
- Experience in delivering effective training programs.
- An extensive breadth of understanding of multiple workplace hazards and the detailed principles of their identification and analysis, along with a detailed understanding of all principles of work health and safety risk management and their application in a complex, diverse setting
- Demonstrated success at driving and implementing WHS initiatives utilising effective change principles and practices
- Working knowledge, Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and associated regulations, codes of practice and guidelines,
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise, engage, encourage, build effective relationships and consult with Council staff to champion a positive safety culture and focus.
- Ability to write high level reports to be presented to the Executive and Council
- Knowledge of best practice safety standards.
