THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a great opportunity to join our client as their HSE Coordinator, stationed at their chemical manufacturing site based in West Melbourne, VIC. This position offers a permanent, full-time opportunity.
They are currently seeking an experienced HSE Coordinator to oversee health, safety, and environmental initiatives across their operations in Melbourne's West and their WA sites. Initially, this role will involve remote coordination for their site in WA via Teams for approximately the next 12 months, with the expectation of transitioning to onsite visits thereafter.
ROLE
Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the main purpose of the role is to improve, implement and maintain the Health and Safety protocols across the workforce and to champion HSE Culture initiatives.
This hands-on role requires a passion for safety, a pragmatic approach and the ability to train and coach across the manufacturing, warehouse, laboratory and office teams.
The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate solid experience in a manufacturing environment ideally having worked with Dangerous Goods (DG) and/or in a Major Hazard Facility.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities include:
- Keep updated & advise on changes and developments in HSE, EPA and DG legislation and best practices
- Maintain a working relationship with all insurers
- Monitor, review and update policies, procedures and SOPs
- Review site HSE, DG & EPA compliance with all relevant legislation and the HSE Annual Program
- Assist to setup and maintain a Safety Committee
- Implement the Annual HSE Action Plan
- Manage WorkCover claims
- Conduct/Organise HSE training programs
- Conduct spot checks and internal audits
- Conduct incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Ensure the standards are maintained to retain ISO 14001 / ISO45001 certifications
- Coordinate and champion HSE culture initiatives
SELECTION CRITERIA
To be successful in your application you will need to meet the following criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety, including Training and Assessment
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with chemical / high-risk industries. Major Hazard Facilities (MHF) is desirable
- Working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation
- Experience in incident investigation and reporting
- Experience with WHS systems, WHS Monitor being advantageous
- Effective interpersonal skills and oral, written & presentation communication skills
- Experience in working across multisite set-ups
- A demonstrated ability to manage complex workloads, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Ability to lead by example and actively drive safety initiatives, enforce PPE protocols coupled with a talent for coaching and mentoring teams to foster a culture of care and excellence within the manufacturing floor.
