About us

Hanwha Defense Australia (HDA) is a comprehensive defence solution provider, building on the strengths of its portfolio, which includes artillery systems, armoured vehicles, air defence systems, and unmanned ground systems.

We are a subsidiary of Hanwha Corporation which has grown to be the largest and the most influential defence corporation in South Korea.

HDA is working to create an extensive manufacturing and sustainment facility in Avalon, Victoria, which will also include an R&D capability and become the hub for HDA’s local activities. 

You will have the opportunity to get in at ground level as we begin developing our Environmental and Health and Safety processes at our brand-new H-ACE facility (Hanwha armoured centre of excellence).

Your new role:

You will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the environmental management system within the organisation and assist with various aspects of the Health and Safety management system. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining effective EHS systems, programs, and initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe and sustainable work environment. 

You will collaborate with management, employees, and external stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in EHS performance and foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility. This primary focus and responsibility of this position is all aspects of the company’s environmental management system. 

The EHS Coordinator plays a pivotal role in promoting a culture of safety, health, and environmental stewardship within the organization. This position requires a proactive and dedicated individual with a passion for EHS excellence and a commitment to driving positive change and sustainable outcomes.

The role will initially be based in our CBD office until the Avalon facility is completed - before the end of 2024. You will then transfer out to the Avalon manufacturing site and work from there ongoing.

Your primary areas of responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS management systems, policies, and procedures in compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments of the workplace to identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend controls and corrective actions to mitigate EHS risks.
  • Coordinate and facilitate EHS training sessions, inductions, and awareness programs to ensure all employees are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to work safely and responsibly.
  • Lead incident and accident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action processes to prevent recurrence and improve EHS performance.
  • Monitor and analyse EHS performance metrics, trends, and data to identify areas for improvement and implement targeted initiatives to enhance EHS outcomes.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, external auditors, and industry bodies to ensure compliance with EHS regulations, standards, and reporting requirements.

As an ideal candidate you will have:

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or higher in Environmental Science or equivalent is preferred.
  • Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment is highly desirable.

Experience:

  • Experience in EHS management roles in a manufacturing (or similar) environment, with a strong understanding of EHS legislation, regulations, ISO14001 and best practices is required.

Skills and Key Attributes: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in conducting EHS inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance audits.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in using EHS management software, Microsoft Office applications, and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Eligibility
