About the role:
We are seeking a passionate Health, Safety and Wellbeing professional to join the People & Safety Team at Forestry Corporation NSW.
This role is responsible for providing operational safety support to staff and contractors in designated divisions/units across the business to implement health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) strategies, initiatives, policies and procedures, in a manner that effectively manages risk and is aligned with Forestry Corporations values and business requirements.
Other Key responsibilities include:
- Providing specialist HSW operational support to customer groups in relation to the consistent, compliant and effective implementation of HSW strategies, initiatives, policies and procedures.
- Directly supporting and coaching operational teams by undertaking the following HSW activities: workplace risk assessments, incident investigations, timely and effective follow through of improvement actions, HSW-related training for staff and contractors, maintenance of records and documentation (e.g. training records, SWPs, risk assessments).
- Ensuring the business requirements of customer groups are effectively communicated through to the HSW Business Partner, in order to optimise outcomes.
- Working collaboratively with others in the HSW and broader People and Safety team to develop, review, evaluate and continually improve HSW strategies, initiatives, policies and procedures to optimise outcomes, ensuring that the business requirements of customer groups are effectively accounted for at all times.
- Maintaining awareness of contemporary approaches/issues relevant to HSW to support the development and implementation of best practice, innovative strategies, initiatives, policies and procedures that optimise outcomes
- Participating in the development and implementation of corporate strategies/projects designed to improve HSW outcomes as and when required
We would love you to have:
- Minimum Cert IV in Workplace Health and Safety or related discipline, or equivalent work experience
- Knowledge and involvement in the interpretation and implementation of workplace health and safety legislation and compliance requirements
- Ability to work in a geographically dispersed, high-risk organisation
- Experience in providing specialist HSW guidance and support in a complex production-oriented or industrial environment
- Knowledge and skills in workplace risk management, hazard analysis and incident investigation
- Solid understanding of safe work practices in forestry, manufacturing, mining or related heavy industry
- Have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build and maintain key relationships and influence others
- Experience in report writing, data analysis and training/facilitation experience
- Flexible and adaptable approach with the ability to work autonomously
- Current driver’s licence with a willingness and availability for intrastate travel
- Ability to use Microsoft suite of programs
- Capacity and willingness to undertake fire and fuel management duties, firefighting and extensive travel (mainly driving), work extended hours, and to maintain sufficient fitness for the job (e.g. able to efficiently conduct reconnaissance / investigation through difficult terrain and dense vegetation) and a current drivers licence.
