We are seeking a motivated Future Leader eager to make their mark in the field of Gas Fermentation, from strain engineering to scale-up bioprocesses. This position will engage in innovative research as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level A), a Research Fellow (Level B) or a Senior Research Fellow (Level C), dependent on experience and established record of achievement and national and international recognition.Key responsibilities will include:ResearchLevel A: Systems and Synthetic Biology and Gas Fermentation, your role involves producing high-quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms. This includes publishing or exhibiting in reputable outlets. Additionally, you will actively participate in applications for competitive research funding, collaborate with industry and academic partners, and contribute to knowledge transfer through translation and commercialisation of intellectual property.Level B: additional to the above you will also develop an independent or team research program that achieves national recognition and impact. You will contribute to the field by producing high-quality research outputs, including publications in national research journals and other refereed outlets. You will actively participate in applications for competitive research funding, collaborate on joint research projects, and work towards transferring knowledge and technology to research end users. Drawing upon best practice research methodologies will be essential in your role.Level C: at this level it will also include taking the lead in publishing or exhibiting in national research journals and other refereed publications. You will actively participate in applications for significant research funding, manage research projects, and contribute to knowledge transfer through translation and commercialization of intellectual property. Your responsibilities extend to undertaking independent or team research of national and international standing, fostering strategic collaborative projects, and reviewing best practice research methodologies. Furthermore, you will play a pivotal role in achieving the University’s strategic objectives and providing exemplary academic leadership, including teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.TeachingAll levels: where undergraduate and postgraduate teaching is undertaken achieve teaching quality as indicated by approved surveys and outcomes for students and improve or innovate where appropriate in response to feedback.Supervision and Researcher DevelopmentLevel A: you will contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students. This involves demonstrating personal effectiveness in supervision, managing researcher capability and skill, and providing feedback and coaching. Additionally, you will oversee research support staff throughout the employee lifecycle, ensuring adherence to University policies and procedures. Promptly addressing conflicts and grievances is also essential.Level B: additional to the above, your role involves personal effectiveness in supervision, management, and researcher skill development. You will facilitate engagement opportunities for Higher Degree by Research supervisees, provide feedback, coaching, and professional development to your team, and manage research support staff in accordance with University policies. Promptly addressing conflicts and grievances is also part of your responsibilities.Level C: at this level it will also include guiding Higher Degree by Research students, ensuring their progress and development. Additionally, you will lead by example in promoting responsible research conduct. Demonstrating personal effectiveness in supervision, management, and researcher skill development is crucial. You will facilitate engagement opportunities for supervisees, provide feedback, coaching, and professional development, and manage research support staff in alignment with University policies.Citizenship and ServiceLevel A: you are expected to demonstrate citizenship behaviours aligned with UQ values. This includes actively participating in priority activities for the unit, providing support to colleagues during their absences, and contributing to internal service roles and administrative processes. You will also collaborate externally by cultivating relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies, and the wider community.Level B: at this level it is also expected that you show leadership by mentoring others, collaborating actively, and participating in priority activities for the unit. Additionally, efficiently manage internal service roles. Beyond the immediate organization unit, actively cultivate relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies, and the wider community to foster external links and partnerships.Level C: at this level you will require to demonstrate a strong track record within internal service roles by actively collaborating and participating in decision-making on relevant committees. You will require to establish a history of successful collaboration in external service activities. The full-time equivalent base salary at the different levels will be in the range of:Level A: $77,324.85 - $102,945.12, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $90,470.08 - $120,445.79 annually.Level B: $108,201.26 - $128,201.75, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $126,595.47 - $149,996.05 annually.Level C: $132,201.83 - $152,202.33, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $154,676.15 - $178,076.72 annually.As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.The greater of joining the UQ community are broad: from being part of a university, to recognition of prior service with other Australian universities, up to 26 weeks of paid parental leave, 17.5% annual leave loading, flexible working arrangements including hybrid on site/WFH options and flexible start/finish times, and genuine career progression opportunities via the academic promotions process.About YouLevel ACompletion or near completion of a PhD in a relevant field e.g. Bioengineering, (Bio)Chemical Engineering, Metabolic Engineering, Systems and Synthetic Biology.An emerging profile in research in the field of Gas Fermentation.Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.Evidence of contributions towards successfully obtaining external research funding.Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.Additional for Level BA growing profile in research in the field of Gas Fermentation.A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups.A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.Additional for Level CNational recognition, with a developing international profile, in research in the field of metabolic engineering, Systems and Synthetic Biology and experience in bioprocess, evidence for which can include: an established record of publications in reputed refereed journal and conference presentations; a contribution to the transfer of knowledge, technology and practices to research end users, and the development of partnerships with research end users or external collaborators.Evidence of contributing to and often leading successful applications for external research funding.An established record of effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students to successful completion, evidence for which can include supervisory role contributing to successful completion of Honours or RHD students; developing supervisee capabilities and skills, leading others in the responsible conduct of research, and facilitating engagement opportunities for supervisees.Demonstrated achievement and initiative in internal service roles in conjunction with an established record in external activities.In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:Work Rights: Visa sponsorship may be available for this appointment.Background Checks: All final applicants for this position may be asked to consent to a criminal record check.
