Heavy Vehicle Mechanic

About the business and the role:
Hardy's Haulage is a family-owned and operated business since 1970. We specialise in providing long-distance and local freight solutions for many customers across the eastern states. We have an opportunity for a qualified mechanic at our Warwick QLD depot. The role requires the successful applicant to maintain our fleet to a high standard with regular repairs, maintenance, modifications, and services to be done using workshop facilities at a satisfactory level of service in a timely and effective manner. Ideally, we seek a self-motivated person to take on multiple roles with the depot.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair the fleet in a reliable and roadworthy condition.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to reduce the occurrence of breakdowns.
- Complete all required documentation relating to NHVAS procedures promptly and accurately.
- Detecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults.
- To be responsible for the proper care and operation of any plant, tools or machinery used within the workplace.
- Adhere to Occupational Health & Safety procedures.
- Adhere to all necessary policies and procedures
- Repairing and replacing worn and defective parts and reassembling mechanical components.
- Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after being repaired for proper performance.
- Diagnosing and testing parts with the assistance of computers.
- May respond to vehicle breakdown service calls.
- Saturday work is required. Weekdays can be flexible for reduced hours
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Manage parts stock
- Training will be provided to upskill
- A forklift ticket is required or willing to attend training to obtain one
Skills & Experience:
- Ability to carry out mechanical tasks with minimal supervision.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and to make independent decisions.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work within a team environment.
- Possess a driver’s licence. HC or MC preferred for test drives
- Preferred certified Tradesperson, Heavy Vehicle Road Transport Certificate III or Diesel Fitter qualifications and experience.
