HOMELESSNESS COMMUNITY CASE WORKERS
Since 1974, Althea Projects Inc. has been supporting and strengthening the capacity of vulnerable people within Townsville and the surrounding regions. Our main programs are Foster & Kinship, Wee Care Residential and Althea’s Community Hub, from which we deliver a range of services.
Althea’s Community Hub is a day centre for those who are vulnerable, homeless or at risk of homelessness. We provide these individuals with the opportunity to socialise and be supported and valued as members of our community. Services delivered from the Hub include emergency relief support, case management, access to essential and specialist services, meals, showers and laundry facilities, participation in organised events and opportunities for paid voluntary work. The centre also delivers our social enterprise, Morehead Meals, which produces affordable, ethical, healthy and delicious meals, available for purchase to everyone in our community.
We are looking to appoint Homelessness Community Case Workers on a full-time permanent basis. As a Case Worker at the Hub, you will work across centre-based, outreach and mobile service activities at Althea’s Community Hub to assist individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Reporting to the Senior Case Worker, you will be responsible for:
- Providing case management services, including intake, assessment, case planning, case noting, and referral.
- When mobile, initiating contact with people who are homeless in public spaces and other locations with respectful and culturally appropriate engagement and assessment practices.
- Providing high quality support to individuals that will enable the development of skills, meaningful participation and independence needed to access long term sustainable housing.
- Collaborating with the Senior Case Worker or Centre Coordinator for any complex case management needs.
- Performing home visits and home safety assessments (if/when mobile).
- Overseeing client volunteers in the centre.
- Assisting with day-to-day operations at the Hub.
- Actively contribute to maintaining a culture which values health, safety and wellbeing.

Selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated knowledge of case management principles, including needs assessments, goal setting, developing care plans, and evaluating outcomes and how this would apply to working with individuals who are experiencing poverty and / or homeless or at risk of homelessness.
- Knowledge and experience working with individuals and families from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the ability to provide culturally appropriate engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare case reports, maintain case files, and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience working with community organisations and ability to develop strong partnerships and networks with stakeholders.
- Ability to work as part of a team and exercise initiative, with a focus on establishing goals, achieving program outcomes and meeting key performance indicators.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using computer software and databases for case management, including Microsoft Office Suite and case management software
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, and adhere to legal and ethical requirements in relation to information sharing and case management.
- Relevant qualifications in social work, community services, or related fields at a minimum Certificate III level.
- Current positive notice (Blue Card), manual driver’s license, and ability to satisfy child and personal history screening.
