The OpportunityWe are looking for an experienced HR Adviser to join the team in our Weipa operations supporting the leadership team with day-to-day generalist HR activities.Rio Tinto Weipa is located 900km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria and has been operating for over 50 years. • Managing employee relations matters and providing advice to customers with a focus on early intervention
• Driving change with a focus on continuous improvement and challenging the status quo
• Developing and embedding of HR procedures, systems, templates and reporting mechanisms
• Building Leader capability in HR systems and processes including cyclical processes
• Facilitating organisational change through to HR systems and processes
• Leading HR projects with exceptional attention to detail and out of the box thinking

What you'll bring

• Proven HR experience (5 years) in an operational mining role, with a comprehensive knowledge of generalist HR activities
• Demonstrated understanding of Australian Employment Law framework and best practice application of relevant legislation
• Proven experience in a busy HR generalist role managing multiple stakeholders, maintaining deadlines, and delivering a strong HR service
• Extensive experience in supporting leaders with workplace investigations and advising on performance management practices
• Ability to provide HR services on site with experience in utilising technology platforms to facilitate strong relationships with the broader HR team
• Resilience and the ability to thrive in a continuous improvement culture and have a strong commitment to team-based processes and outcomes
• Capacity and versatility to operate in a large organisation which involves delivering business objectives remotely and across a diverse workforce
• Excellent interpersonal influencing, coaching, communication, negotiation, and consultation skills

Where you will be workingOur Weipa operations in Far North Queensland includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Amrun, our newest mine, was completed in 2018 and will extend our Weipa bauxite operations by decades, significantly building on our 55-year history on the Western Cape and providing jobs and supporting business growth in the region. The mine is located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.About Rio TintoRio Tinto is a leading global mining and materials company.
