The Australian Bureau of Statistics is looking to recruit two Human Centred Designers for our Client Management Section.
The Client Management Section enables the development and improvement of services that are research based, led by design and customer focused. We provide intelligence and clarity about the current customer experience in terms of what works well and where pain points are to identify improvements.
The Design team is establishing a Centre of Excellence in Human Centred design (HCD) tasked with raising organisational capability to design with the customer at the centre. As a senior designer you would be assisting and leading in the delivery of best practice HCD advice, guidance and assistance to enable key ABS priorities.
Responsibilities may include:
- supporting the set-up and operation of a Human Centred Design Centre of Excellence and a Design Community of Practice
- leading, supporting, preparing for and facilitating design thinking sessions including clarifying intent, qualitative research, analysis, synthesis, ideation, concept creation testing and prioritisation
- developing best practice design resources, guides, procedures and templates for the organisation
- developing design artefacts including journey maps, concepts and prototypes
- communicating and advocating the design process, risks and value in sufficient detail to build business confidence and buy-in with policy partners, stakeholders and project teams
- driving the use of best practice tools and techniques, advocate for Human Centred design and support the uplift of design capabilities within the branch and across the agency
- managing, supporting and mentoring staff including coaching and training to build knowledge and capability in research and design activities and outcomes
- collaborating and engaging with stakeholders about the value of improved customer experience and providing HCD knowledge and support
- building and maintaining key stakeholder relationships, negotiating requirements to meet business needs and strategic objectives.
What we are looking for (selection criteria)
To be suitable you should have most, or all, of the following skills, qualities and experience:
- demonstrated ability to assist and lead teams to plan, conduct and apply best practice human-centred design approaches and deliver appropriate outputs that support strategy, direction and prioritisation
- demonstrated application of analytical, problem-solving and research skills to make decisions and recommend solutions whilst considering the business context and emerging trends
- demonstrated ability to advocate and communicate the voice of customer in all that you do to influence an improved customer and staff experience
- experience in preparing, leading and facilitating group training sessions and workshops and developing training plans and materials is desirable
- demonstrated application of interpersonal and communication skills to sensitively engage with customers, internal and external stakeholders in various communication formats
- demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and plan and prioritise workload for self with support from team leader to accomplish business outcomes.
Essential:
Minimum two to three years’ experience in a similar field or position.
Desirable:
Qualifications relevant to human-centred design methodologies and practices, psychology, behavioural economics or similar.
