Human Research Ethics Officer

The Opportunity

• International community – progressive ethics environment
• Full-time (35 hrs week), fixed- term contract to November 2024, possible extension
• $106,351 - $115,103 (depending on experience) + 17% super + leave loading

The Human Research Officer reports to the Human Research Manager and oversees the compliance and support for several Research Ethics committees. You’ll also contribute to providing ongoing improvements to human ethics processes and resources for researchers, including web resources and online and face-to-face training and being fully immersed in a paperless environment. In addition, the Human Research Officer contributes to strategic and operational projects across the Research Ethics Compliance Support Office, supporting the Division of Research & Enterprise goals.

The Research Ethics & Compliance Support (RECS) team coordinates committees and processes for research involving humans, animals, gene technology, radiation safety and research export controls and provides advice on legislative and other requirements in these areas. Committees include the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and its Human Research Ethics Advisory Panels (HREAPs). RECS also coordinate other research compliance areas such as export controls, drone use and quarantine.

About the successful applicant

You can demonstrate your experience in Human Research Ethics, as well as knowledge of codes and legislation related to Human Research and ethics, and critical thinking skills to interpret accordingly. High level communication and administrative skills, including previous experience working with committees are also essential.
