The Research Ethics Support Officer’s primary role is to assist in the management of the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and its sub-committees, and to facilitate communication with stakeholders regarding the requirements for, and outcomes of, Research Ethics applications. The Research Ethics Support Officer will also provide administrative support to staff of the Research Ethics Office.
This position is one of a number of support positions within the Research Office. The Research Ethics Support Officer will work with other Research Office staff to ensure the smooth running of all administrative services and research facilities. All staff in the Research Office are expected to work flexibly to achieve urgent priorities as required, under the direction of Research and Development Manager.
The Research Office provides support to researchers across the Network based at both Westmead and Randwick.
- Completion of appropriate tertiary level qualifications (Certificate IV or above) in health or social sciences; or, substantial experience providing administrative support in a highly regulated environment, such as Research Ethics.
- High level administrative support and organisational skills, including demonstrated ability to work to prioritise tasks, and meet tight deadlines in an environment of competing demands.
- Proven high level oral, written and interpersonal communication skills including experience liaising with people from a variety of backgrounds and at all levels of an organisation.
- High level attention to detail, particularly in relation to administrative and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Sound understanding of, or capacity to understand legislation, codes and guidelines relevant to Research Ethics; in particular, the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research and Good Clinical Practice.
- Demonstrated high level decision making, project management, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience in a wide variety of electronic document management systems and web-based programs; for example, TRIM, Microsoft Excel, Access.
