Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is seeking an engaged and client focused person to join our Independent Family Advocacy Support (IFAS) team. You will provide high quality non-legal advocacy services to families, including the provision of information about people's rights and the child protection system, supporting people to access their rights using self-advocacy strategies, making referrals to legal and non-legal services, and providing advocacy. You will work closely with both the Senior Advocate and Manager also based in Melbourne and be part of a broader team of Advocates located at co-location outposts across Melbourne.This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country with 1 day fortnightly at a co-location outpost.About you:As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Extensive experience in the provision of advocacy services in health, community service, social work or other similar sectors.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the child protection and child and family services systems, including legal and policy context of those.
- Experience working with First Nations families, adults with intellectual disabilities, and/or people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, particularly within the child protection system.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients quickly.
- Post-secondary qualification (certificate, diploma or degree) in a relevant field such as social work, health, community development.
