In-House Counsel

The Northern Australian Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) is a development financier that was established by the Federal Government to provide financial support for the development of infrastructure projects in northern Australia.

NAIF provides loans, which may be concessional, to encourage and complement private and public sector investment in economic infrastructure. 
NAIF was allocated a funding facility of $7 billion and has now made commitments (in the form of investment decisions and conditional commitments) of $3.9 billion in North Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia. 

Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer the successful candidate will play a supporting role within the Portfolio and Investment Teams, providing legal and commercial advice, documenting, progress and closing transactions.

This position will be primarily responsible for:

• Reviewing and negotiating CAs, NDAs, service agreement and other procurement related activities related to terms and conditions;
• Assisting the Portfolio Management Team to review and document waivers, consent requests and restructure proposals; 
• Supporting the Investment Team to review and document transactions  and provide preliminary legal advice and support on deal and transactional matters involving project / infrastructure transactions: and
• Assisting with general corporate and regulatory matters as they relate to the NAIF Act and Investment Mandate. 

We are keen to brief candidates who are making their first move away from private practice or who are already on their in-house career path. This role will suit a Lawyer with a collaborative and solution focused mindset who has the following attributes:

• 3 to 5 years’ post-qualification experience in banking & finance (preferred), corporate, project, asset and/ or property finance.
• Ability to contribute to negotiations and complete transactions in collaboration with your team and external providers.
• Previous experience in or with the Government sector and knowledge of relevant Government policies, systems and procedures would be an advantage.
