The Myuma Group is a group of not-for-profit corporations and is owned and managed by the Indjalandji-Dhidhanu Aboriginal traditional owners of the Camooweal region. With a vision to sustain people and country through Aboriginal enterprise, Myuma Group has established itself through a diverse range of successful civil construction, hospitality, training, employment services and land & heritage management enterprises, in far North-West Queensland and parts of Northern Territory.
As part of the Myuma Group, Dugalunji Aboriginal Corporation, with the support of Aboriginal Traditional Owner groups, has been funded by the Queensland Government to employ Indigenous Rangers to provide effective and culturally appropriate land management under the Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger Program within the Georgina, Diamantina and Cooper Creek catchment systems of the Lake Eyre Basin.
About the Indigenous Head Ranger Position:
- Must hold formal qualifications in a relevant field - at a minimum Certificate III level in Land or Ecosystem Management , Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies.
- Plan and operationalise activities, with stakeholders and traditional owners, that deliver on program milestones and keeping within program budgets.
- Supervise the recording and reporting of activities using e-tools and in-house database.
Assuming overall responsibility for:
- Supervising staff to support compliance with health and safety processes.
- Ensuring the work plan is achieved through day-to-day work planning, scheduling and coordination.
- Coordinating the Ranger team’s day to day activities.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Mentoring and team development, including ongoing capacity-building for team members.
- Managing Ranger assets, ensuring equipment and assets are purchased, checked, maintained and repaired in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Working with traditional owners, pastoralists, local government and community groups to achieve ‘caring for country’ outcomes and raise awareness of the importance of looking after country.
- Communicating and presenting information in a culturally appropriate way to traditional owners in relation to the scoping, planning and carrying out of activities by the Rangers.
- Overseeing logistical arrangements and data collection.
Right Person must:
- Actively promote a team culture that supports and encourages resourcefulness and innovation, as well as contributing towards the improvement of all processes and systems.
- Exercising good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of a team.
- Assisting generally with other tasks as required, to support the delivery of the Program and organisational goals and objectives.
- Be physically fit and undertake all relevant medical examinations and drug/alcohol tests as required.
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices.
- Identify as Indigenous Australian.
- Have a strong interest to work on country, sometimes after hours and often away from home for extended periods of time.
- Hold at a minimum a current C class manual driver's licence.
- Hold a Blue Card, or be eligible to obtain one.
