Geologist Superintendent Diamond to lead our diamond drilling operations across the vast and dynamic landscapes of the Pilbara. Reporting to the Resource Definition Manager, this pivotal role is situated within our Resource Definition team and carries the responsibility of overseeing all diamond drilling scopes including geometallurgy, geotechnic, and density programs across both operational sites and those under study/project development.
Key Responsibilities- Uphold and promote stringent safety practices among all team members and contractors, supporting a culture of safety and wellbeing first in line with Fortescue's core values and operational standards
- Lead a diverse team of approximately 70 personnel, including specialists, senior geologists, supervisors, and field technicians, as well as managing drilling company contractors
- Ensure the efficient and effective delivery of various diamond drilling programs tailored to geometallurgy, geotechnics, and density studies
- Lead the planning, management, and execution of diamond drilling operations, ensuring alignment with project objectives and stakeholder requirements
- Provide ongoing support and development opportunities for the geoscience professionals under efficient leadership, fostering a team environment contributing to learning and professional growth
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance drilling operations and team performance, delivering value and ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency are maintained
Qualifications and Experience- Tertiary qualification in Geology or a related field
- Extensive experience in Resource Definition Geology, particularly within iron ore contexts
- Experience across various commodities will be highly regarded
- Proven leadership experience in managing large teams and contractors in a drilling operations environment
- Solid understanding of QA/QC processes related to diamond drilling
- Proficiency in geoscience software tools such as ArcGIS, Vulan, Leapfrog, and acQuire
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Class C manual WA driver's licence
