Inspector of Custodial Services
- Ongoing (35 hrs. per week)
- Location: Sydney with flexible working arrangements available
- Clerk Grade 7/8, Base Salary ($99,431 - $110,064 plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading
Your role
The Inspector of Custodial Services is appointed to inspect adult correctional facilities and youth justice centres, and report to Parliament on the findings of these inspections.
The Inspector also oversees the Official Visitor Program in correctional facilities and youth justice centres.
What you'll do
The successful applicant will undertake high level research and provide advice to ensure that functions under the Inspector of Custodial Services Act 2012 are carried out in a professional and timely manner.
Co-ordinate and participate in inspections and reviews of custodial centres and services.
You will also:
- Undertake high-level qualitative and quantitative research into the treatment of inmates and the condition of adult and juvenile custodial centres and services.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of custodial service inspection standards, methods, manuals and systems, practices, and policies of the Office of Inspector of Custodial Services.
- Participate in the planning and conduct of inspections and reviews of custodial centres and services.
- Assist with the preparation of statutory and non-statutory reports relating to inspections and reviews of custodial centres and services.
- Provide regular advice to the Senior Inspection/Research Officer and Inspector on the progress of research work and inspections.
What we're looking for
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
Appointments are subject to reference checks. Some roles may also require the following checks/ clearances:
- National Criminal History Record Check in accordance with the Disability Inclusion Act 2014
- Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
