About the team

The Response Coordination and Work Health and Safety Verifications (RCWV) team is a critical part of SafeWork NSW and the way in which event notifications are responded to and coordinated throughout the inspectorate. It is dynamic team of field-based inspectors with the added responsibility of:

• Management of notified events (including servicing the incident line)
• Verification of Enforceable Undertakings
• Site visits including Requests for Service, ARVs and First Response Activities
• Handling Section 231 requests (requests for prosecution)
• Engagement and support of Safe Work Advisory Services
• Participation in the New Inspector Training Program

Additionally, the team is presently undergoing business improvement whilst we look to implement the recommendations set out in the recent reports released by the Hon K McDougall, KC and the Auditor General.

About the role

As an Inspector in RCWV you will be responsible for undertaking SafeWork NSW’s, management of notified events and requests for services including the response (triage), coordination (allocation to directorates), site release decisions and first response activities.  You will also undertake, verifications to ensure employers have complied with requests from SafeWork NSW (e.g., administrative response) and verification of actions agreed through enforceable undertakings.

• Foster close collaboration with internal stakeholders, including various teams and directorates such as WHS Metro and Regional teams, Construction, Investigations, Specialist teams, and SafeWork Advisory Services, ensuring consistent and prompt responses.
• Thrive in a dynamic team environment and be adept at managing conflicting demands efficiently.
• Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills and possess a solid understanding of the responsibilities of other SafeWork teams and directorates.
• Exhibit excellent communication skills, engaging proactively with SafeWork personnel, employers, requestors, and emergency services.
• Embrace a team-oriented approach, demonstrating commitment to sharing knowledge and experience within the RCWV team and other areas across SafeWork.

• Work a 38-hour working week, including some weekends and participate in the After-Hours Emergency Response Service  
• Receive an attractive salary package along with the required tools of the trade, including a vehicle with access to private use (currently at a cost of approximately $210 per fortnight)  
• Be able to access flexible working conditions within operational requirements 

Essential requirements 

• Ability to travel, work remotely and out of usual business hours
• Hold a NSW ‘C’ class drivers' licence with a satisfactory safe driving record and a requirement to maintain the safe driving record throughout employment
• Satisfactory criminal record check
• Satisfactory medical assessment capacity regarding physical and psychological impacts of the inherent duties of the role

• Undertake the 12-month New Inspector Training Program (NITP). This intensive program is delivered by our Registered Training Organisation and combines mandatory components of induction, class training, online learning, completion of set assessments and tasks, and extensive on-the-job field training with regular travel throughout NSW.
