Casual Music Tutor 
An exceptional opportunity exists for Strings Tutor to join the team at St Andrew’s Anglican College. To deliver quality music lessons and innovative education as a valued member of the Co-Curricular Music Department.

Role of the Position

The position of the Instrumental Music Tutor is to deliver quality Music Lessons and innovative education as a specialist in an area of the Co-Curricular Music Department. The Instrumental Music Tutor has the responsibility to undertake this role in keeping with the Music Department Strategic Plan as directed by the Director of Music. The Instrumental Music Tutor works in conjunction with other music faculty, Instrumental Music, and ensemble staff, to form a collaborative approach to the learning journey of every student.

Strings - An inspiring and enthusiastic musician of violin/viola, keen to instill a love for playing strings in Primary aged children. Possible teaching work available in our Year 3 Strings program for the right candidate.  

Key Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications or demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Hold a current, valid Blue Card as required under the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 or QCT Registration
  • Intermediate use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proven ability to work as a constructive member of a team with a professional, courteous manner
  • Maintain a degree of flexibility in working hours from time to time as required for the position

Key Accountability

Teach your instrument(s) to either individual or small groups

  • Create an environment of active and genuine learning by employing a range of teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Monitor each student’s progress and keep student and parents informed of progress.
  • Keep accurate records of achievement and attendance in order to provide meaningful reports and parent communications as required.
  • Maintain your instrumental area by; checking equipment and teaching area, updating asset records, obtaining quotes for repair and keeping in regular communication with the Director of Music, Head of Bands and the Music Administrator.

Participate in the College’s Co-curricular Music Program and the Band Immersion Program

  • Prepare your instrumental students either as soloists or ensemble members for the various performances that occur throughout the year.
  • Assist in rehearsals and sectionals, or take the responsibility and direction of your own ensemble/s.

Maintain your own skill and knowledge in Music, teaching and your instrument/s.

  • Actively pursue the development and improvement of your instrumental area by accessing and implementing up-to-date teaching methods and curriculum tools.
  • Utilise Information and Learning Technologies as appropriate to your instrument/s
  • Seek regular professional development opportunities such as attending appropriate seminars and courses
  • Maintain relationships with professional associations (eg ABODA)
  • Coordinate any arrangement and orchestration of music for ensembles as necessary/relevant.
  • Previous conducting/directing skills are desirable
