Western Health Drug Health Services (DHS) is currently seeking a suitably experienced and qualified AOD clinician to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team.The Intake & Assessment Clinician provides an intake function to Drug Health Services (DHS) Residential Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Programs and conducts comprehensive AOD assessments, treatment planning, referral and linkage into Community AOD Services.This is an important role within Drug Health Services, providing the first point of contact, engagement and triage of all clients and their families seeking to access Alcohol and Other Drugs services.The clinician will be responsible for the assessment and referral into community residential Withdrawal and Rehabilitation beds managed across DHS, through receipt of referral from state-wide intake providers as well as from other stakeholders including internal referrals and direct client presentations.To be Success for this Role, you will:

  • Hold qualifications in social work, nursing, psychology or other relevant health discipline
  • Possess excellent assessment, treatment planning and clinical presentation skills
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to manage competing priorities within a multidisciplinary team of Allied Health, Nursing & Medical staff
  • Have a strong understanding of Harm Minimisation, Relapse Prevention Overdose Prevention and other

Selection Criteria Essential: Certificate IV in Alcohol and other Drugs or equivalent or working towards the same
Essential: Experience in the provision of services to individuals and/or families and groups affected by substance use
Essential: Understanding of, and commitment to, the principles and practises of harm minimisation in the drug and alcohol field
Essential: Proven capacity to negotiate with consumers, staff and other stakeholders
Essential: Demonstrated experience in the area of mental health assessment
Essential: Demonstrated skills and experience in triage, assessment, treatment planning, psychological interventions and referral for our clients across the lifespan and their families
Essential: Demonstrated phone and brief intervention skills
Essential: Demonstrated ability to deliver quality consumer care and possession of excellent clinical skills
Essential: Demonstrated experience working effectively independently and also within a multidisciplinary team environment with minimal supervision
Essential: Demonstrated time management, organisation and planning skills
Essential: High level verbal and written communication skills
Essential: Experience in the use of technology to create clear and concise documents, reports and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
Essential: Demonstrated commitment to developing and improving personal education and skills appropriate to the position
Essential: Excellent skills in screening, assessment, risk assessment, care planning and service consultation
Essential: Demonstrated comprehensive alcohol and drug assessment and counselling skills
Essential: Knowledge of the biopsychosocial effects of drug use and mental health issues and their impact on individuals, their families, significant others and the community
Essential: Knowledge of contemporary practices in the mental health treatment area
Essential: Crisis and risk management/suicide intervention skills
Essential: Demonstrated ability to effectively manage complex client issues
Essential: Ability to contribute to a multidisciplinary team and to establish effective relationships with staff, clients, families and workers in both the AOD and mental health sector and community agencies
Essential: Positive role model in Change Management processes
Essential: Demonstrated sensitivity to the diverse needs of marginalised groups
Essential: Demonstrated ability to deliver quality consumer care and possession of excellent clinical skills
Essential: Experience in the use of technology to create clear and concise documents, reports and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite
Essential: Demonstrated competency and knowledge to effectively undertake basic health care education
Essential: Experience in the development, implementation and review of policy, procedures and guidelines
Essential: Current Victorian driver's license
Essential: Nurses:
Essential: Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA
Essential: Experience working in a senior clinical role (CNS or above)
Essential: Have completed or be working towards Post Graduate studies in area of specialty
Essential: Psychologist:
Essential: Current registration with AHPRA and endorsement in Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology or Forensic Psychology
Essential: Possession of Master's level or above in Clinical Psychology, clinical Health psychology or Forensic psychology
Essential: Hold an area of Practice Endorsement in Clinical Psychology/Health Psychology/Forensic Psychology, or undertaking a Board approved supervision program towards endorsement
Essential: Social Worker:
Essential: Bachelor/Masters of Social Work degree and eligibility for AASW membership
Essential: Minimum 3 years professional social work experience, preferably in a hospital/healthcare setting
Essential: Community Development Worker:
Essential: Qualified Community Development Worker with Post Graduate qualifications
Essential: Minimum 7 years experience in Drug and Alcohol sector
Desirable: Evidence of prior service delivery planning
Desirable: Demonstrated knowledge of quality management and improvement methodologies
Desirable: Demonstrated experience in research projects and publication of research activities
Desirable: Training and experience in the development and delivery of education programs to consumers, carers, the community and health professionals
Desirable: Post Graduate qualifications in AOD treatment, therapeutic interventions or management
Desirable: An up to date knowledge of the issues, trends and government policies in the delivery of AOD services, in the delivery of AOD services, mental health services and in the health industry generally
Desirable: Accreditation as a Clinical Drug Assessor with the Drugs Policy and Services, Department of Health and Human Services, or be eligible for accreditation
