Transport Services
Transport Services is a Division of the Department of Transport and Planning and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable and accessible transport infrastructure and services to all Victorians.
Rail Services is a Division in the Department of Transport, and is accountable for the management and performance of today's Victorian heavy and light rail and interurban coach networks. We manage franchisees, operators, contracts, leases, assets and projects, ensure compliance, provide assurance and enable collaboration across DoT to optimise customer outcomes and value for money.
The Metropolitan Tram branch sits within Rail Services and is responsible for the management and performance of the State's tram franchisee and contract to optimise customer-focused outcomes and value for money.
About the Role
The Next Generation Tram (NGT) represents a significant upgrade to Melbourne's tram network with a confirmed order of 100 NGTs expected to start operating on the tram network from 2025. This role is responsible for ensuring tram franchisee readiness to receive and operate the Next Generation Trams. Additionally, this role will ensure the Department's readiness from a contractual perspective for the same.
The role will also be responsible for helping ensure impacts to the current Franchise Agreement are understood and managed in relation to tram infrastructure, maintenance and tram operations, as a result of major projects that are underway by the Big Build program across the Melbourne network.
Position Outcomes
- Effective NGT Integration – Ensured the effective operational and contractual integration of the Next Generation Trams onto the tram network.
- Contractual Negotiation – Effectively negotiated contractual matters with the current franchisee that relate to the introduction of the NGT and any impact on the existing Franchisee obligations.
- Role Clarity & Stakeholder Engagement – Ensured stakeholders understand their role and deliver requirements in supporting the introduction of the Next Generation Trams.
- Major Projects Support – Effectively provided project teams or agencies support and advice on contractual matters relating to major projects as they relate to trams.
- Risk Management – Contractual, commercial and operational risks associated with the integration of the NGT and major projects are identified, managed and escalated where required.
- Promote and support safe, inclusive and flexible team operations.
Mandatory
- Extensive contract management experience in a complex commercial environment
- Experience in the light or heavy rail industry.
