Your ability to supervise and teach junior medical staff is essential for their growth and development, and contributes to excellence in our ICU Services.The Department of Intensive Care Medicine is responsible for the provision of Intensive Care services at Western Health’s (WH) Intensive Care Units. Our ICUs are located at Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital. The intensive care case mix includes critically ill medical, surgical, and obstetric patients. At Sunshine we support a Cardiogenic Shock service that includes insertion and ongoing care of percutaneous left ventricular assist devices in. • Medical Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a specialist in Intensive Care
• Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine
• Excellent communication & teamwork skills

Other requirements for the position:

• Demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate staff
• Technical & non-technical crisis management skills to enable safe autonomous clinical practice
• Commitment to support and foster clinical research

Local Work Environment:Sunshine Hospital is a 25-minute drive from Melbourne CBD. The Sunshine ICU is a 13-bed mixed medical, surgical & obstetric adult ICU, admitting approximately 1000 patients per year. Footscray Hospital is a 20-minute drive from Melbourne CBD. Footscray ICU is a 13-bed mixed medical and surgical ICU, admitting approximately 750 critically ill adults per year. Each site is currently funded to 12 ICU equivalents (24 total across Western Health ICUs). By comparison to other metropolitan ICUs, patients admitted to Western Health’s ICUs are relatively young, with very high severity of illness scores. We provide care to one of the most culturally diverse and rapidly growing metropolitan regions of Australia.
