About the role

The Access and Public Engagement Branch is the public face of National Archives of Australia, delivering reference, description and research services, examination for the release of records in the open period, exhibition, education and public programs, digital publishing, marketing, partnerships and events on site at national and state offices, and online. All programs and activities support the key National Archives’ role of providing an accessible, visible and interpreted national archival collection.

The Communication, Marketing, Partnerships and Events section is responsible for promoting and profiling National Archives of Australia through brand management, marketing, production, public relations, media, social media, strategic partnerships, corporate events, retail activities, the Members Program and Internal Communications.

Under limited direction, the main duties of the role are to:

  • Lead the internal communication function, including coordinating and delivering the weekly all-staff newsletter, weekly Executive team updates and quarterly all-staff virtual event.
  • Develop and implement key communication processes.
  • Write and edit content for a range of communication channels.
  • Engage regularly with key internal stakeholders to build relationships and provide communication advice and guidance.
  • Support change initiatives by assisting with internal communication plans and deliverables.
  • Play a key role in the new SharePoint intranet site which is under development, including drafting and delivering communications relating to the project and supporting content creation.
  • Support the Executive team by providing communication advice and talking points for internal speaking engagements.
  • Prepare briefs and reports as required.
  • Liaise and collaborate with the Marketing and Social Media Officer and Digital Publishing Manager to align communication for promotional and marketing activity.
  • Apply the principles of APS Values, Code of Conduct, workplace diversity, work health and safety and participative management within a work and team environment.

Tertiary qualifications or professional experience in a relevant and/or related field is essential.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the role you must be an Australian citizen. If you are selected, you will be required to successfully undergo a pre-employment check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a Negative Vetting two (NV2) clearance level.
