Our client is a 4th generation family business with over 35 years of continuous farm ownership with a current expansion program. Now managing 10,000 acres, our client has substantial interests in horticulture, broad-acre cropping and livestock operations. As the business has expanded our client has created “a village” to accommodate their growing workforce and have chosen to proactively retain staff by offering attractive remuneration packages that include various accommodation options, flexibility around family commitments, proactively providing upskilling and additional training to their staff. Our client is expanding their Irrigation Infrastructure and have reached the stage that they need a dedicated person to focus on this important part of the farm infrastructure.

A little bit more about this role:-

  • Be an importart of the farm crew and grow into the role as the irrigation program expands
  • A supported autonomous role, be left alone to get your work done, no micromanagement
  • Work with farm and irrigation managers to manage irrigation program to ensure optimum broadacre & fodder crop moisture levels 
  • Use your problem solving skills and mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot any pivot and pipe repairs and maintenance
  • Have flexibility due to the requirement to ensure appropriate watering levels, at times you will need to stay at work to get the job done which may include working into the night or on weekends
  • There will be times when you will be working in other areas of the farm such as fixing water leaks in their grazing paddocks or upgrading water infrastructure in other areas of the business.
  • All team members undertake general farm work and operator duties from time to time which may include tractor driving, seeding and harvest operations and general livestock duties.
  • As is the nature of farming, sometimes things happen on another part of the farm and everyone downs tools to go and deal with it before returning to their regular duties. Everyone pitches in when they have the capacity to do so.

Additionally, in order to be considered for this role, you should demonstrate the following:

  • You’re comfortable with responsibility knowing errors can influence the success of the whole season;
  • You have previous experience driving and operating farm machines including sprayers, tractors, trucks and harvesters;
  • You’re willing and capable of using farm online platforms for scheduling of work and record keeping, such as Agworld;
  • You have previous exposure to machinery systems including GPS Software; and
  • You have HC/MC license, forklift license, telehandler license and first aid certificate (an advantage but not essential).
  • team orientated approach interacting with cropping, horticulture, irrigation and livestock staff
