About us

The Mai-Wel Group has been providing a diverse range of disability services to residents of the Hunter Valley for almost 60 years. What began as a group of local families coming together to provide education and opportunity to their children has today developed into a thriving business supporting more than 1,500 participants across seven Local Government areas.

With experience in supporting individuals to explore various industries in the Hunter region, both through trial work opportunities and within the businesses at Mai-Wel, you will understand the importance of fostering a supportive team environment that equips individuals with the necessary skills.

When it's time for your clients to transition into award-paying jobs (open employment), they are there to provide dedicated assistance. Their network of local employers and the post-placement support they offer ensure that they are available for their clients even after they've successfully secured employment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, research, facilitate and assess skill development training programs in relation to participant goals and requirements.
  • Implementing programs that enable participants to achieve their goals by building on their strengths and focusing on solutions.
  • Employing a range of skills to build positive relationships with participants and/or participant’s circles of support to engage them in active communication on the running of the service.
  • Employing a range of skills in interacting with participants and/or participant’s circles of support to encourage positive relationships and active communication with and between participants and to ensure each participant achieves maximum training and employment outcomes.
  • Participate in the development of co-operative relationships amongst service providers, community facilities, local business and participant’s circles of support to arrange work experience and other activities that will encourage participants to meet their goals.
  • In order to be successful in this role you will need:

  • Have a desire to work with people with a disability.
  • Ability to act as a role model and guide co-workers to work consistently and efficiently to meet participant needs.
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft applications such as word, excel, outlook.
  • Current Drivers Licence & comprehensively insured vehicle.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (you can complete this in onboarding)
