We're seeking a full-time journalist to write hard news and features for our online publications, HR Daily and Shortlist. All applicants must have some newsroom experience; this role is not suitable for grads.
About us:
Our growing organisation, Specialist News, is seeking a journalist to write for our respected news services, HR Daily (hrdaily.com.au) and Shortlist (shortlist.net.au).
We've worked in specialist publishing for more than 25 years and our successful subscription-based model relies on us delivering high-quality news and information that's not available elsewhere. The content we produce helps our readers maintain compliance with employment laws, improve their workplaces, and contribute to their overall business success.
Our articles are primarily hard news, with some features and case studies in the mix. We also regularly host live webinars and Q&As for our premium members.
About you:
This role is suitable for a journalist with some experience, who is curious, keen and able to become an expert in new topics. You must be able to understand complex issues and quickly turn them into concise, readable, plain-English articles.
You devour news of all types and are passionate about great reporting.
You work well to deadlines, and turn in clean, concise copy every time.
You're comfortable with face-to-face networking and both phone and virtual interviews with senior business leaders.
You are tech-savvy and a fast learner when working with new systems.
If this sounds like you, you'll get bonus points for experience in business and/or legal writing, and/or video editing and production skills.
In return for your hard work and great attitude, we offer competitive remuneration ($75-80k commensurate with experience), flexible work (in terms of location and hours), development from some of Australia's most experienced business journalists, plus potential for lateral and vertical career moves across titles in our broader publishing group.
About the role:
A typical day starts with a team meeting to discuss the editorial plan, then you might liaise with PR and comms specialists to source talent and schedule interviews.
Most of your interviews will take place online but you'll also meet in person and attend industry conferences and events, chatting to business leaders, lawyers and subject matter experts.
You'll usually write a couple of articles each day, also sourcing imagery and using basic Markdown (online formatting code) for our custom-built publishing system.
This role is primarily based in our CBD office, with work from home opportunities and more flexibility once you've settled in. It can sometimes involve a small amount of out-of-hours work and interstate travel.
