Intershop is looking for a Junior DevOps Engineer to support and manage complex eCommerce environments for household brands that operate at an enterprise scale. We are looking for candidates who are excited about running, managing and supporting complex proprietary platforms and are keen to continue growing your technical and interpersonal skillet. This role is integral to the success of the team, you will be expected to actively participate in projects to improve systems performance and the level of service our customers receive. The candidate must demonstrate a high level of initiative, resourcefulness, energy, and the ability to work autonomously. This is a full-time permanent opportunity, reporting to the Managed Services Manager with the role being located in Melbourne. This is an in-office position based out of our office on Church Street Cremorne. You will have the fixability to work remotely from time to time but it would be an exception, not the norm. We are a close-knit team that relies on low-latency communication, collaboration and peer upskilling. Responsibilities & Key DutiesAs a Junior DevOps Engineer, your responsibilities will be broad and varied. There is an expectation you have a base knowledge of platform support, Linux systems administration, cloud hosting providers, and are looking to continue to grow both your technical and interpersonal skills. Day to day responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Responding to incidents as they occur
  • Monitor and review customer implementations
  • Test and deploy changes to internal systems and customer implementations
  • Administration and maintenance of customer environments
  • Build and support new environments
  • Be part of a follow-the-sun roster with peers in different countries
  • Process documentation
Intershop is a PaaS and SaaS provider for large and enterprise customers. Our solutions are required to have high availability and uptime. To achieve this there is always a staff member on call to cover limited after-hours support, you will be paid additional loading to be on call as well as a paid variable penalty rate to attend to problems if they occur out of hours. From time to time you need to accept escalations from your teammates while you are not on call if they are unable to resolve the problem alone. Skills required
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in business English both written and verbal
  • Technical and business knowledge to be able prioritise and triage customer problems
  • The ability to debug issues and trace the problem back to the root cause
  • Experience with cloud hosting providers such as AWS or Azure
  • Experience with Puppet, Ansible, or Chef
  • The ability to write scripts in any language of your choice
  • Software version control in either SVN or GIT
Skills that will put you aheadThese skills are in no way required to get started. Intershop will formally and informally invest time and energy into upskilling your technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Administrating complex Azure implementations
  • Run Kubernetes directly or via a service provider (AKS, EKS, DOKS, etc)
  • ServiceNow administration
  • NewRelic APM and log analyses
  • Gradle, Jenkins, Nexus, Maven, and any other build automation tool experience
  • The ability to write SQL queries
  • ITIL certification
In addition to these principle competencies, the successful candidate will be required to execute the following tasks:
  • Action and resolve Intershop Application Support issues/tickets
  • Manage and support defect handling and maintenance resolution
  • Deliver detailed technical configuration, support documentation, and solution design
  • Scope activities for business and scheduled IT initiatives
  • Install, configure, manage and maintain application and environment configuration

  • Experience working in IT Help Desk, application or platform support
