Join our team and be the driving force behind streamlined development processes in the Kiama Municipality. As a Development Assessment Coordinator, your primary objective will be to ensure the efficient processing of development applications, meticulously aligning them with the requirements of the Environmental Planning and Assessment (EPA) Act 1979, State Government Planning Instruments, and our Council's Planning policy. You'll play a crucial role in assisting our Council in meeting its statutory obligations under the EPA Act 1979, ensuring adherence to regulatory frameworks while fostering sustainable growth.

Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to strategic planning initiatives under the guidance of our Director of Planning, Environment, and Communities. As a leader within our Development Assessment team, you'll chair meetings, spearhead discussions, and drive decision-making processes.

What we offer...

  • Permanent full time, 35 hours per week 
  • An attractive salary and benefits package commencing from $88,433.28 (salary is dependent on qualifications, skills, and experience) 
  • Plus 11% superannuation

What you'll need to be successful in the role...

  • Qualifications in Town Planning, Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent discipline recognised by the Planning Institute of Australia.
  • Class C drivers’ licence.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience assessing and determining development applications and issuing notices and orders.
  • Experience representing Council in the Land and Environment Court and in gathering evidence for successful legal proceedings.
  • Excellent communication, consultation, and negotiation skills with a strong customer focus.
  • Project Management experience including research, planning, report writing and organisational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Experience supervising a team and supporting individuals to resolve technical issues, while promoting innovation and improvement.
  • Experience using MS Office suite.
