Koorta Guide (Adult and Child)

Candidate Notice: This advertisement is for a pool recruitment process to identify suitable applicants for permanent part-time or full-time positions. The pool will remain active for six (6) months following finalisation of the recruitment process and successful candidates may be contacted at any time during the pool period for appointment to a position. Ruah may expand or supplement this pool where candidate availability does not align with vacancy placement requirements.

Ruah is proud to be developing the Karlup Service, a holistic, wraparound recovery-based model aimed at supporting women and Children to heal from family and domestic violence. The Karlup Service will provide a range of offerings from the Ruah Centre for Women and Children (RCWC), a state-of-the-art purpose-built facility in Perth’s CBD.

The Koorta Guide (Adult & Child) is a critical role within the Karlup Service. Koorta is a Noongar word which means “trusted friend”. Koorta Guides are at the heart of the Karlup Service model and play a critical role in supporting women and Children throughout their journey of healing and recovery by walking alongside them to gain a deeper understanding of their needs, work collaboratively to develop a plan for their future, and provide practical support to access internal offerings and navigate external support services.

What we’re looking for

The successful applicants will be required to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be female*
  • Minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Community Services, Youth Work (or equivalent field) and/or a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar support role.
  • Previous experience in working effectively with children and young people who have experienced family and domestic violence and a sound understanding of the dynamics of family and domestic violence and the social and cultural context in which it occurs.
  • Capability to work effectively with a trauma and culturally informed model of service delivery.

The following criteria are considered desirable:

  • Diploma or Degree level qualification in social sciences, social work, family studies, psychology, or a related discipline.
