What’s the job? 

We are looking for a Lab Coordinator to join the Health and Education team on a fixed term position until 31st July based at Melbourne Campus. Our Lab Coordinator is the architect behind our laboratory-based learning sessions, with nursing simulation labs, and advanced audio-visual setups awaiting your command. In this role, you'll work with our lecturers to keep our labs stocked up and running smoothly for our students to enjoy!   

The Lab Coordinatorwill be responsible for ensuring high quality learning outcomes for students through the support of laboratories in accordance with Think Education and Torrens University’s learning and assessment strategies, and industry accreditation requirements.  A Lab coordinator is in charge of a learning environment used to educate nurses and Health Science students at Think Education and Torrens University Australia. In a day you might set up the simulation centre, check equipment. Simulators can be human patient (like a mannequin) or audio visual equipment. You may also ensure equipment and consumables are available. Computer skills are an important part of this position as it is a very technical role. This includes an understanding of any heart rate or blood pressure monitors and other equipment used in the environment.    

Day-to-day accountabilities: 

  • Support and prepare simulated clinical experiences according to program requirements.   

  • Ensure laboratory equipment reflects current best practice through identification of new equipment available for learning and advising Line Manager.   

  • Ensure there are sufficient quantities of consumables available through liaison with subject leads and proactive purchase.   

  • Ensure all equipment is maintained according to manufacturers’ guidelines.   

  • Engage with manufacturers for up-to-date information on their products and for refresher and upgrade training on new models.   

  • Set up and prepare equipment for the delivery of educational activities scheduled in the various simulated laboratories.   

  • Ensure simulation laboratories adhere to OH&S regulations and accreditation Standards.   

  • Manage quality and risk assessment in laboratories.  

This is a fixed term full time position until 31st July based at Melbourne Campus. We are looking for candidates with an immediate start.    

Please note, if you are successful in securing this role, you will be required to submit: 

  • Current Working with Children Check 

  • Certified copies of all your Academic qualifications 

Who you are 

To be successful in this position you will have:    

  • Medical background having worked in the hospital environment as a lab technician   

  • OR Experience as an enrolled nurse (EN)   

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)   

  • Preferred demonstrated experience in the HE/VET sector Advanced organisational skills and attention to detail   

  • Ability to effectively manage and apply key conflict resolution skills in the student environment   

  • High level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skill   

  • Satisfactory computer literacy and simulation technology skill   

  • Qualification in relevant health industry or lab technician
