About the role

Clinical Labs is currently seeking a Laboratory Manager (full time) for the Darwin Laboratory located in Darwin, Northern Territory. This position is responsible for overseeing our Darwin Laboratory, including all operation functions to ensure Laboratory activities are carried out safely, effectively and efficiently. 

This rare opportunity requires the appointment of a suitably qualified and experienced Scientist to the role of Laboratory Manager who has a multi-disciplinary background with strong competencies in Biochemistry and Haematology to manage the pathology service.

The position will suit a self-motivated individual who demonstrates an attention to detail, a can do attitude, and a strong focus on outstanding customer service. 

You will be required to work across a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends and some public holidays.

Key accountabilities of the role:

  • Interpret results and ensure significant findings are communicated promptly and accurately within acceptable turn-around-times (TAT).
  • Lead, manage and supervise the laboratory team including recruitment, workforce allocation (rostering), facilitation of team meetings, performance management issues and any participation in any disciplinary matters.
  • Maintain quality and compliance with NATA standards at all times and have a sound understanding of Quality and reporting requirements.

To be considered for the role you will need to possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications of at least a Bachelor Degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science, with subjects relevant to pathology or an equivalent recognised qualification relevant to Medical Laboratory Science as recognised by professional bodies such as AIMS.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workflow to meet the company’s and client requirements.
  • Theoretical and practical ability to perform a range of laboratory tests as per method manual and best practice.
  • Strong time management, organisational and interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate excellent customer service at all levels 
  • Experience with purchasing and consumable levels within agreed budgets
  • Ability to consistently maintain compliance with Australian Clinical Labs Standard Operating Procedures at all times.
  • Experience in WH&S matters relevant to the laboratory environment, including compliance with WH&S policy, WH&S management systems, all relevant safe work procedures including reporting all WHS incidents and non-conformances.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service with a high level of interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders with a diverse range of people at all levels.
