About Laboratory Services

We are the largest dedicated water and wastewater laboratory in the southern hemisphere with Tier 1 quality in our laboratory and field performance. This allows us to provide the highest level of assurance to the community of Sydney Water’s quality product.

Trace Analysis tests methods across all products, such as; source water, drinking water, wastewater, recycled water, environmental waters (ie river, beaches, ocean sediments), stormwater, biosolids, sludges, grit & screenings.

About the role

Reporting to the Lab Manager this role will see you lead the daily operations of the laboratory by providing coordination of workload, team support, and team enablement to ensure the quality of samples and analysis, and the timely delivery of results to clients within Trace Analysis.

  • To deliver analytical services for approved monitoring programs and to support the delivery of R&D needs, in accordance with Greater Sydney Water Strategy and through monitoring processes.
  • Assist in the development of an efficient monitoring service to clients. This position will require you to:
  • Routine and complex sampling and/or biological or chemical analysis, of water and wastewater
  • Operate complex analysis instruments
  • Demonstrated ability to operate all instruments within laboratory operations, and interpret results for the successful completion of reports
  • Ensure that processes and appropriate quality systems are in place
  • Ensure compliance to all quality system requirements
  • Be fully conversant with all requirements of NATA accreditation and have the ability to become a NATA signatory
  • Have appropriate knowledge of regulatory requirements and procedures

About you

This position will require a team member well versed in water and wastewater monitoring for organics testing with complex instrumentation and NATA accreditation. You will have experience as a people leader / mentor working in an operational laboratory demonstrating your ability to lead a small team and deliver targeted business and customer outcomes.

To be considered for this position you will require the following:

  • Five to ten years’ experience in laboratory operations including advanced instrumentation experience (operation, maintenance and troubleshooting) in GCMSMS, LCMSMS and ICMS
  • Demonstrated involvement in the ISO 17025 and 9001 quality systems accreditation and demonstrated ability to become a NATA signatory
  • Demonstrated ability to define, manage and lead delivery against operational workplans and tasks including: plan and allocate material and labour resources, use of equipment, and monitor targets and delivery times
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills: ability to liaise with clients, colleagues and senior management; write clear and concise reports using computer software packages such as Word, Excel and the Quality Management Systems database
  • Demonstrated experience in all aspects of LIMS and/or CLICK and Maximo. Demonstrated experience in carrying out major scientific projects such as method development and validation
