We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to join the Operations unit within DPIRD Diagnostics and Laboratory Services (DDLS). In this position, you will deliver technical, financial, and physical resources to support specialist diagnostic laboratories within DDLS. You will be responsible for; managing procurement and maintenance of all laboratory equipment and machinery within DDLS; managing the disposal of biological, biosecurity and chemical waste; coordinating logistics and transport of laboratory goods; and liaising with the DPIRD Assets branch and internal and external stakeholders. You must also understand IATA packaging requirements to manage DDLS staff IATA training and coordinate the dispatch of media. As DDLS is a NATA accredited Laboratory, an understanding of equipment calibration and record-keeping is required.We currently have one 36-month fixed-term full-time position available for immediate filling.We are looking for individuals with:
  • A Diploma or higher in a relevant discipline with relevant practical experience or demonstrated relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of working within a biological sciences laboratory.
  • Experience providing technical support to laboratory, research or certification programs relating to animal (terrestrial/aquatic) and/or plant diseases and/or pests.
  • A valid Forklift License or be able to acquire a Forklift Licence, at the applicant’s, expense prior to appointment (preferable).
