About You

Marcellin College Randwick is seeking an enthusiastic and suitably experienced Laboratory Technician who is passionate about science to support our science faculty at the school. Responsible to the Science Coordinator, the Laboratory Technician maintains adequate operational systems and oversees the effective day-to-day running of science resources. The position is responsible for providing a safe teaching and learning environment and ensuring that all practicals and experiments are prepared for each class, there are adequate chemicals and equipment required and administrative tasks are completed.

This is a permanent, full-time position commencing Monday, 20 May 2024 or negotiable. The working hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 8.30am to 3.30pm and Thursday 8.00am to 12.00pm.

To be successful for this role, you must demonstrate;

  • the capacity to safely and effectively prepare science practicals and experiments
  • the ability to use the Risk Assess portal and accurately conduct risk assessments
  • the ability to compute Hazardous Substances Risk Assessment forms and obtain relevant Material Safety Data Sheets and update these as per current WHS guidelines
  • the ability to conduct regular stock-takes, inventories and audits of both chemicals and equipment
  • the ability to perform routine servicing and maintenance of equipment
  • the ability to arrange repair where necessary of equipment by external agencies
  • the ability to care for fauna and flora following current regulations
  • the ability to clean and return to storage all apparatus used in practical work periods
  • the ability to clean laboratories, preparation and storage areas and maintain a neat and ordered storage system
  • the ability to order and purchase ad-hoc consumables for practical investigations
  • the ability to perform additional tasks as instructed by the Leader of Learning Science or the Business Manager
  • a sound understanding of Workplace Health and Safety requirements including the safe management, storage, handling and labelling of hazardous material
  • the capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team and at times autonomously
  • a willingness to undergo any relevant training appropriate for the role
  • commitment to supporting a positive religious and cultural Catholic School environment.

  • an SCS Employee ID Number, by completing the Registration To Work process, or a commitment to complete the registration process.
