Salary: $65,612 - $80,489 per annum + superannuation
The opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a Laboratory Technician, you will join a dynamic and collaborative team comprising clinical variant curators, clinical bioinformaticians, Laboratory Technicians and scientists, clinical geneticists, genetic counsellors, and research scientists. You will report directly to the Team Leader of R&D and may also work in the Sequencing or DNA Extraction labs as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with wet lab components of R&D projects.
Focus on Next Generation Sequencing, Long-read Sequencing, and other molecular techniques.
Adapt to the evolving priorities of VCGS and MCRI.
Work independently and as part of a team.
Participate in a rotating (on-call) roster for after-hours and weekend work, if required

The Research and Development Team in Genetics & Genomics Innovation at VCGS is dedicated to pioneering new technologies and test options for our clinical and research services. We prepare business cases, apply for grants, and collaborate with various VCGS labs to implement and enhance technologies and tests. Our team also engages in commercial and third-party R&D opportunities.

What we need from you:
A passion for genetics and genomics with an Associate Diploma/Diploma/BSc in Biological Sciences or similar
A minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in wet lab techniques, particularly in sequencing technologies.
Understanding of specimen reception and patient information.
Extensive hands-on experience in a wide range of sequencing (NGS, long-read sequencing, etc.) and molecular genetic techniques and technologies
Flexibility to adapt to varying project demands
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
