About the role
A Lead Data Engineer is a vital part of the Online Data Products team, who provide trustworthy and safe to use data assets for SEEK teams across APAC, so that they can make informed decisions and deliver customer experiences using data.
A Lead Data Engineer is a hands-on technical role, contributing to the build and operation of technical solutions, but has additional leadership responsibility for people management and delivery outcomes.
You will be responsible for:
- Direct line management of a small team of engineers
- Performance review and management of individuals.
- Professional growth via coaching and mentoring.
- Fostering a team culture that embraces delivery, ownership, teamwork, learning and continuous improvement.
- Setting goals, prioritising, planning, as well as contributing to budgeting and resourcing
- Lead delivery and operation of datamarts & other data assets, along with the data processing pipelines and orchestration to deliver them.
- Hands-on development and operational support duties alongside other Data Engineers.
- Ongoing ownership of solutions you build to ensure they remain fit for purpose, meet customer needs, meet technology health metrics, and align with architectural guidelines.
Qualifications
Skills and experience
- Experience with technical leadership, coaching and mentoring the capabilities of engineers
- Strong stakeholder management & communication skills
- Experience with Agile practices
- Advanced SQL and deep understanding of database technology
- Building data pipelines / ETL / workflow orchestration
- Big data processing systems (eg Spark, Hadoop)
- Cloud-based analytic data technology (ideally AWS)
- Developing datamarts and data warehouses
- Experience using "DevOps" practices: including ownership of deployments, infrastructure, system administration, monitoring, and operations
- Develop clean code using current practices like CI/CD, TDD, pair programming
- Experience supporting BI, data science, and AI/ML
- Physical, logical, dimensional data modelling
