Cricket ACT (CACT) is the peak sporting organisation responsible for the governance, development, promotion, and administration of cricket throughout the Australian Capital Territory. The vision for CACT is for cricket to be the number 1 sport in the ACT and region.
An exciting opportunity has become available at Cricket ACT for a skilled Lead Groundsperson, assisting to manage the surfaces of Manuka and Phillip Ovals, including practice facilities.
Manuka Oval is the premier Cricket and AFL venue in Canberra and its surrounding regions. Manuka Oval has hosted numerous international and domestic cricket matches and during summer serves as a central playing hub for the KFC Big Bash League (BBL) season as an alternative home ground to Sydner Thunder. During winter, Manuka is transformed into an AFL ground to accommodate multiple AFL Premiership matches including the GWS Giants.
In addition to hosting elite domestic cricket, which includes the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) and Toyota 2nd XI matches, Phillip Oval serves as a high performance training facility for cricket and AFL.
You would be working with a small team to continue to deliver turf surfaces of the highest standard at both venues. This role has some leadership responsibilities and the potential for career progression.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist in managing the preparation and presentation of all grounds under CACT management, including oversight of Premier Club grounds, for all cricket and other major events
- Assist Head of Curation and Assistant Curator and lead Grounds team in the transportation, installation and preparation of Cricket Pitches
- Assist in managing annual turf, machinery and equipment maintenance programs
- Proactively promote and comply with WHS policies and procedures within compliance with WHS requirements
Our ideal team member will have:
- Relevant qualification in Sports Turf Management or equivalent
- Excellent technical skills in turf trades, soil and irrigation
- The ability to research and develop turf/grass best practise
- Experience in the preparation of cricket pitches
- Experience with the use of irrigation systems
- Be proficient in WHS requirements and management practises
- Have and maintain a current drivers licence
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- You will hold a valid Working with Children Check or have the ability to obtain one.
